BedPosts Customers' Reviews Scheme for Business Club members

Why this scheme is for you:

It is for you if you are currently paying TripAdvisor loads of money for your business listing, giving away special offers and then paying an online travel agent 15% or more in commission!

More reasons why we think the BedPosts scheme is superior to TripAdvisor:

  • More readily protects interests of accommodation provider whilst preserving travellers' rights of fair free speech.
  • More readily eliminates fraudulent reviews from rival accommodation providers, friends & family and self-written.
  • More readily allows removal of untrue or unfair reviews.
  • Does not use subjective score out of 5 system.
  • Permits reader to go to member's website via link provided without extra payment.

Objectives:

  • To provide an alternative platform to reviews sites such as TripAdvisor on BedPosts.org.uk for guests of BedPosts members to comment on their experiences at BedPosts members' premises.
  • To provide a feed of reviews to members' own websites.
  • To use the unique text provided by reviews to propel BedPosts accommodation pages up search engine rankings and thereby obtain more bookings for members.
  • To allow a system of appeal wherein unfair or inaccurate reviews may be moderated by an appointed member of the BedPosts Business Club.

Main Features of the Review Scheme:

  • Reviews to be displayed on 'read more' pages of members' BedPosts advertisements.
  • Reviews to include first 330 characters of text, with option to click to read the remainder.
  • 'Agree' facility instead of subjective TripAdvisor-style 5-blob or 5-star ratings.
  • Reviews to be displayed via feed on members' own websites.
  • TripAdvisor-style widget to be displayed on members' websites to include number of reviews and 'Agree' tallies.
  • Moderators' control panel.
  • Extension to members' advertising control panel to include:
    • obtaining code for feed of reviews to their own website,
    • code for widget to display review information on own website, and
    • initiating invitation to guest to make a review.
  • Guests can log onto BedPosts.org.uk and post reviews; members may also email/ask guests for a review on BedPosts.
  • Members found reviewing their own accommodation by opening multiple email accounts will be expelled from the system.

How the Review Scheme will operate:

  • Each reviewer will be able to give a "quick glance rating" by clicking on 'Agree'. These scores will continue to total up without any ceiling.
  • Questions might be "Would stay again?", "Would recommend to a friend?", "Value for money?".
  • Possible answers would be Agree, Disagree or neutral. These tallies would appear at the top of the accommodation's review area, saying for example 120 people clicked 'would stay again'. 96 people clicked 'would recommend to a friend'. 104 people clicked 'value for money.'

How the Reviews are Dealt With:

The scheme should not let accommodation providers 'rest on their laurels'. Reviews answering No to questions would count as negative scores and deduct from the positives. The tally wouldn't be allowed to show a negative total, but alarm bells should be ringing for moderators of the system.

Guest reviewer completes the review process by using 2 text boxes:

  • Main box: tick for the review to go on display.
  • Subsidiary box: for special advice, comments, constructive criticism or niggles intended for accommodation provider's eyes only.

Once a review has been made:

  • the review's status is initially set to unapproved, and
  • the accommodation provider is alerted by email of the new review, and
  • the accommodation provider must log into the review system, at their convenience (by following a link in the email alert) and change the review's status to either:
  • approved - which will put the review live, or
  • unfair - a response may be added to the review by the accommodation provider or negotiations may be commenced, or
  • dishonest - which will keep the review hidden, the accommodation provider must enter a justification.

Within the moderator's control panel, accounts with an unusually high percentage of review statuses that are marked dishonest will be flagged and will need to be dealt with by the moderator.

In this scheme reviews are never deleted from the system, although dishonest reviews might not be shown to the outside world. This means that a detailed picture can be built up about an accommodation provider for any talks between the moderator and accommodation provider and the reviews will do the talking for themselves. Also, with the public and private parts to a review, this also means that this system is even more valuable than just another review system as it can gather honest feed back, allowing the accommodation-provider to improve, and strive to get a few more of those valued return customers.

It should also be noted that the system runs on a very relaxed clock:

  • Moderators are not compelled to deal immediately with bad reviews: they can log into the system at leisure to take corrective action.
  • The accommodation-provider can also log into the system at their convenience (within reason), knowing that bad reviews haven't gone live without their knowledge.

Initially the moderator(s) will be volunteer(s). When the Committee has sufficient funds to employ a co-ordinator to run the scheme, this will form part of the co-ordinator's role and acceptable response times may be reconsidered as appropriate.

The scheme will also be open to non Club members on a PAYG basis, but their properties will scroll below Club members on the BP Availability site. The Committee will assist Club Members in negotiations with guests and the scheme moderator, where necessary in the event of unfair or alleged dishonest reviews, by acting as intermediary if required, this service will not extend to PAYG members.
